New Year New Blog Post: 2024 Year in Review

Hey Everyone!

Writing posts for this blog became a huge highlight of the past year in a way I hadn’t really anticipated. I’m kinda shocked by how many people actually read the posts and wanted to discuss them in real life (not just my mom)! I started this blog in part, to accomplish one of my 2024 goals: improving as a writer. By posting stuff publicly, I hoped it would force me to write more consistently, which was sorta true. In general, I just really had fun, and the medium works well for sharing my random interests and creative endeavors.

All of this combined with my WordPress hosting subscription automatically renewing, means I’m gonna keep posting more stuff, at least for another year. To commemorate this I’m dropping both this post and the first entry in a series I’m calling Activities Maxxing, which you can check out here: Speed Puzzling

I also want to give some updates on last years posts, and give some teasers for what I’m working on for this year.

2023 Movies in Review

My first post of 2023 was a Top 10 movies list, and looking back I think it mostly holds up still. There’s some slight movement, like Oppenheimer drops down a bit now that I’ve seen Dune Part 2 and Interstellar also in IMAX. When I initially watched Zone of Interest, it didn’t click with me right away, partially because I think Alamo isn’t the best venue for this kind of movie. However, it has persisted in my mind and makes the list.

Lastly, I became enthralled with Perfect Days. This movie resonated with me a ton and I ended up taking different friends to see it, for a total of five watches in theaters. I have so much I want to say about this movie, and that will be its own post eventually. I also filmed a bunch of related content to the movie while in Tokyo.

Seamless Bay Area

Truly one of my highlights of 2024! I really want to run it back and succeed in getting every single Bay Area transit agency. To my knowledge, no one has gotten more in a single day than me. If someone has pelase hit me up, I’d love to chat about the route and strategy. I think you can comfortably do every agency in two days, so I might just have to do that…

Random Flyers

This post was really just an excuse to share some of the weird stuff on my camera roll. I recently purchased a camera, so expect some picture-based posts once I learn how to use it. In the meanwhile here are a couple of recent flyers I saw:

SF City FC

It’s still fun to be a fan, even when the level of play isn’t particularly high and the team isn’t all that good. SF City FC finished the season 5-6-3, and I’m super pumped to see if they can complete more than four passes in a row this year!

It’s been fun to run into people wearing team merch on the streets and at concerts. I get a bunch of compliments when I wear the MUNI Parrot jersey around, and my “City til I move to Colma” shirt is one of my favorites.

Yamathon

Currently researching howe I can follow this up… There’s so many possibilities to do in Japan, guess I’ll have to go back…

SF Scavenger Hunt

For whatever reason this last summer Scavenger Hunts were all the rage in the city, especially with SF Pursuit captivating so many people. I really want to one up myself for Season 2 of my game, and am in the scheming phase right now.

I ended up running a second game later in the summer which really opened my eyes to what all could be done in a 5 hour game, here’s the scoring breakdown for it:

Finally there is also now an official JetLag: Hide and Seek that I bought and can’t wait to run a game of as well.

Voter Guides

This was a monumental effort, the majority of which was done by Sasha, so shout to him . We got so much (mostly positive) feedback on this and for sure will do it again. Not everything went how we would have liked, both locally and especially nationally, but we will keep fighting on.

Rip Prop L

Times are shitty to say the least, but it’s important to not lose hope and give up. Look out for each other and try to make a difference starting locally. Remember the off season matters a lot in politics, so there will be no shortage of content on that front. I’ll see everyone at the bike lane CEQA hearings!

Thanks for reading. Big things coming. Watch this space. Many people are saying. Much to consider.
